Prescription Eyewear in Lexington, KY

Contact Us
Pal Optical has a long and distinguished history serving the citizens of Lexington and Central Kentucky. Our company was founded in 1955 by Dr. Herman Abel and his wife, Hennie, a licensed optician, who moved with his family from Louisville and opened their first office on Main Street.
The optical store was located on the ground floor and the doctor's office was upstairs. Back then, a mechanical chairlift carried patients up to the doctor's waiting area! From these humble beginnings, we have become Lexington, KY's, go-to place for prescription eyewear, contact lenses, and eyewear accessories.

Expanding the practice

In 1980, Pal Optical opened a second location in the Lexington Mall. This store did not contain an in-house lab, so the glasses were transported to the Main Street location for fabrication.

By 1984 the Lexington Mall location had become more popular with our patients, so the decision was made to close the Main Street location and have the Lexington Mall be our base of operations.

Growing our family

In 1976, Dr. Abel hired Dr. Steven Klecker to assist with the optometry practice. Dr. Klecker worked at the downtown location as well as Lexington Mall.

He eventually became a partner, then owner of the optometry practice located beside Pal Optical. In 2005, Dr. Klecker hired a new optometrist, Dr. Kathryn Robbins, who possessed an impressive array of qualifications, including being Dr. Klecker's daughter.

Looking to the future

In 2002, Pal Optical relocated once more to Woodhill Circle Plaza, where it remains today. Our chief optometrists, Dr. Klecker and Dr. Robbins, are located in the same suite. Pal Optical is now managed by licensed optician Linda Gilliam, who has been with the company since May of 1984. We invite you to visit our store today and see why thousands of Lexington, KY, residents trust us for all their vision correction and prescription eyewear needs.
